2002. Designed at the Tres Design Group. Produced by Tierney Rides.
Photography: John Payne
The idea was thought up by two brothers working out of their garage who really felt the need to snowboard in the off-season. Current models in the market didn't quite have the snowboarding feel and seemed to create different riding experiences rather than simulations. The focus of this project was to design an in-line 2 wheeled system responsible for the carving simulation. The final design uses a donut shaped torsion spring, which allows the wheels to twist into a curve and reset back to an in-line axis for speeding down hills.
When we first started the project, the client had the idea, but didn't exactly know what a product of this nature could look like. We realized that the skateboarding market was a well established market. A market that has a reputation of not exactly accepting alternative products, such as in-line skates or skooters. So we wanted to create a completely new product, one that would create it's own style. Unfortunately, due to production costs, an off-the shelf board was used, but in any case these are some of the concepts proposed.
